Smithers Ski Club – Alpine Team

The Race Team is for avid alpine skiers who aspire to become competent all-around skiers and racers. Skiers are taught proper ski and race technique. Race tactics are developed. Emphasis is on refining skills and creating strong, focused skiers through free-skiing, park skiing, drills & exercises, and technical free-skiing. Gate training includes drill, stubbie, skills, giant slalom, slalom, and super giant slalom courses. Racers improve ski-specific fitness through mandatory pre-season and in-season dryland training. Knowledge is increased through the use of training tools such as video analysis, mental training, goal setting, and club interfacing (racers train with other teams). Race participation and competition is encouraged; the team travels to zone and provincial races. Team uniforms included.

Ages 8 and up: Saturday and Sunday 8:45-3:30 December 6, 2008 to April 15, 2009
Midweek training pre-season 2×4 day; Christmas Camps, 4-day Speed Camp

Smithers Ski Club – Bantam Team

Designed for those who want to take their skiing to the next level, this intermediate step between the Nancy Greene and Alpine Programs will increase skiers skill development under the guidance of an experienced professional race coach. This program focuses on proper technique in all aspects of skiing and gate training while still emphasizing a fun atmosphere! This team benefits from training sessions alongside the Alpine Team. Ski specific fitness training (dryland) is also an option for these racers. Members are eligible for the CIBC Wood Gundy Zone giant slalom and slalom races which parents and racers are encouraged to attend.

Ages 7 – 12; Saturday 9:15-3:30; December 6, 2008 to April 15, 2009
